After 12 years experience in manufacturing, mechanical equipment application, sales and consulting engineering in British Columbia, founded J.M. Bean & Co. Ltd. in 1963. The firm offers a complete range of mechanical engineering services for commercial, institutional, industrial and recreational projects.

Since its founding, services have been provided for Architectural, Government and Industrial clients. Complete engineering services have been supplied to clients in association with specialist firms when diverse fields of engineering are involved.

Energy conservation has always been a prime consideration for design provided. "Total Energy" systems designed by the firm have been operating since 1964.

After retiring from active practice in 1989, Mr. Bean served as Chairman of the Consulting Engineer/Mechanical Contractor Committee in 1990. The committee, sponsored by Consulting Engineers and the Mechanical Contractor's Association of British Columbia published and circulated "Code of Practice on Commissioning Mechanical systems in Buildings" to agencies concerned with the subject. The Code took approximately 2 1/2 years to draft and revise to meet the Committee requirements.
